Blake Morgan, a full-service UK law firm, partnered with InnoVent to move away from disruptive “Big Bang” IT refresh cycles by introducing a phased approach using 2nd Life IT devices. This initial phase created a structured bridge model, allowing the organisation to transition away from large-scale, all-at-once device replacements and move towards a more manageable, business-as-usual refresh strategy.

As these initial short-term leases matured, the organisation reached a natural point to evaluate long-term endpoint solutions and reintroduce new manufacturer-led hardware into the estate.

Evaluating the next generation of devices

In collaboration with InnoVent, Blake Morgan reviewed multiple vendor options for the next phase of its endpoint strategy.

A key requirement was to deliver a premium, modern device experience that aligned with the needs of a highly mobile legal workforce, while also supporting performance-heavy workloads, including emerging AI-enabled applications and core legal systems.

User experience was a critical factor. Device evaluations were shared with end-user groups, comparing multiple manufacturers. Feedback consistently highlighted preference for the Samsung devices based on their design, form factor and overall user experience.

The selected devices included:

  • Samsung Galaxy Book5 Pro (14” and 16” models)
  • Samsung Galaxy Book6 Pro (14” and 16” models)

A total of 750 devices were deployed, with end users given the flexibility to choose screen size based on working preference.

Why Samsung was selected

The decision to proceed with Samsung was driven by a combination of factors rather than brand positioning alone.

Key considerations included:

  • Lightweight, premium device design suited to mobile professional work
  • Strong performance capability supported by latest-generation processors
  • Positive user feedback from comparative device testing
  • A technology roadmap aligned with long-term endpoint strategy
  • Confidence in ongoing product innovation and future platform evolution

The outcome was a device estate that balanced performance, mobility, and user preference, while supporting Blake Morgan’s longer-term IT roadmap.

InnoVent acted as the orchestration layer between Blake Morgan and Samsung, ensuring that the transition from bridge devices to new hardware was managed as a continuous lifecycle rather than a disruptive replacement programme.

Deployment was delivered using a zero-touch approach, leveraging Microsoft Autopilot to ensure devices arrived pre-configured and ready for use.

In parallel, the existing fleet was collected, securely data wiped, and processed for redeployment into secondary use streams, supporting InnoVent’s circular IT model.

Circular IT and sustainability considerations

Sustainability remained a central factor in the decision-making process.

Samsung’s use of recycled materials in its device manufacturing was viewed positively, aligning with Blake Morgan’s ESG priorities. In addition, the 3-year lifecycle model ensured that devices would remain in productive use before being refreshed and reintroduced into secondary markets.

A key element of the model is flexibility: devices are designed to retain value beyond their primary lifecycle, enabling refurbishment and redeployment to secondary users at the end of term.

This approach reduces waste, extends asset life, and supports a more circular approach to IT procurement and management.

A flexible, managed lifecycle model

The combined solution enables Blake Morgan to operate a structured, predictable IT lifecycle model:

  • Devices are refreshed on a rolling 3-year basis
  • Refresh cycles are staggered rather than completed in a single disruptive event
  • End users benefit from consistent access to modern, high-performance devices
  • IT operations are simplified through managed deployment and return processes
  • Capital expenditure is avoided through a managed leasing approach, freeing budget for higher-value business priorities

Outcomes

The transition delivered:

  • 750 Samsung Galaxy Book devices deployed across the organisation
  • Improved user experience driven by device choice and performance
  • A consistent 3-year lifecycle refresh model
  • Reduced operational disruption compared to traditional refresh programmes
  • Continued alignment with sustainability and circular IT principles
  • A scalable framework for ongoing device lifecycle management

Why this partnership works

This project demonstrates a broader principle: effective IT transformation is not defined by hardware alone, but by how technology is delivered, managed, and evolved over time.

By combining vendor selection, lifecycle management, and circular IT principles, InnoVent enables organisations like Blake Morgan to:

  • Avoid disruptive “all-at-once” refresh cycles
  • Maintain predictable IT costs through managed leasing models
  • Improve end-user experience through better device selection
  • Align technology decisions with sustainability objectives
  • Retain flexibility in future technology choices
